The Institute on Religion & Democracy invites you to enjoy an evening reception with Eric Patterson, Ph.D. for the launch of his highly-anticipated book Just American Wars: Ethical Dilemmas in U.S. Military History, examining the moral choices faced by U.S. political and military leaders in deciding when and how to employ force, from the American Revolution to the present day. The evening will include a book signing and discussion with Patterson as he considers the United States' uniquely ethical approach to war and how our Judeo-Christian moral heritage and the checks-balances we citizens exercise in a democracy effect foreign policy. The discussion will be followed by a Q&A session where audience members will be given the opportunity to ask the author any questions on war, conflict, and ethics.  Patterson is professor and past dean of the School of Government at Regent University and a Research Fellow at Georgetown University's Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, & World Affairs, where he previously served full-time.  His interest in international security is informed by two stints at the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Political-Military Affairs, with travel to conflict zones including Afghanistan, Iraq, Turkey, Congo, Angola, and elsewhere.  He continues to serve as an officer and commander in the Air National Guard and deployed to Southwest Asia in 2011.  He is the author or editor of over a dozen books, including Just American Wars, Ending Wars Well, Ethics Beyond War's End, Debating the War of Ideas (co-edited with John Gallagher), Military Chaplains in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Beyond, Just War Thinking, and Politics in a Religious World: Toward a Religiously Literate U.S. Foreign Policy.  Books will be available on site for $25.00.  Light fare and drinks will be served. Space is limited, so please RSVP. Questions? Contact
