The Virginia Master Gardener Association Education Committee and Master Gardeners of Fauquier and Rappahannock Counties are offering a presentation, “Preserving Your Bounty” on Tuesday, September 21 at 6 p.m. on Zoom.\ \ This is the fourth and final session in the “Growing Your Own Food Series” and will focus on the dilemma faced by many gardeners:\ \ Help, I have more squash than I have friends that I can give it to.\ \ The presenter, Becky Gartner has a B.S. in Home Economics Education and a M.S. in Human Nutrition and Foods, both from Virginia Tech. In her presentation, Becky will give an overview of food preservation methods, from drying to pressure cooking and discuss the plusses and minuses of each method. She will also cover the different equipment used for each method, as well as trusted sources for the equipment. Food safety protocols and standards will be emphasized.\ \ Becky’s work experiences have allowed her to focus on her specialties of food safety, nutrition, and food preservation. Gartner recent transferred from the Virginia Cooperative Extension Office in Culpeper to be closer to where she grew up and is now serving in the Virginia Cooperative Extension Office in Rockingham County in the Shenandoah Valley.
